Well Lois you would be proud of me - I have been out three times fly fishing. The first time was at San Pablo. Patrick called that my super practice time. I did just o.k. It is funny how fast you forget what you have learned. The next two Sundays we went to Putah Creek. The first Sunday I did fairly well with my casting. I only got twisted up a few times. Boy those little flies can really get caught up within themselves without any help from me!. But the hightlight of the day was at the beginning of the day. I got my feet caught in the gunk and soupy sand. Patrick told me to just pull my foot out. Of course I am in my waders and boots and nothing will hurt me but I got all worked up. THEN...I fell into the water backwards. Patrick knew not to laugh or he would be walking home. He laughed when we went to dinner afterwards. Of course I started floating and couldn't sit up in the three foot deep water. I was a trouper and fished another 3-4 hours being wet.
This last Sunday we went back for my third outing (second to Putah Creek). I did much better. My casting improved tremendously. I only lost one fly and that was because I dropped it. Dummy me! I didn't fall down.(Yeah!) I did get the stupid hook caught in my finger and Patrick had to rescue me but that was the extent of injury to my body and inner soul.
Did I catch a fish? NO of course not. We are not in this hobby at the beginning to catch anything. That is how I am looking at it. Get out and savor the moment and enjoy the scenery. Catching a fish is like double dessert after a fine meal.
I will let you know if and when I catch one. I am having the time of my life. What a blast!
Thanks for letting me share my first three experiences.
