After a very intense week and a busy sat morning luke, christine the puppy and I drove up to putah creek.(left at 3:45)...I have been all over the sierras and much of Nor Cal but never to that area (and that's with some good friends living in Winters)...I was amazed at the beauty...Lois, I had a great time-not catching fish - if that makes sense..
I thought 80% of my casting was fair to above average (clipping my finger and ear in one cast was pretty slick) and as George mentioned, putah's pretty technical (particularly with the blustery wind) 2 tree snags in the first 5 min--none thereafter...I had 1 sweet strike but was so enamored with the cast I was unprepared to do anything other than watch my potential meal jump, half twist and spit my fly almost right back at me...luke was smooth as silk and worked a large stretch of water..he became obviously very frustrated with the zero result but I think overall he enjoyed himself..we had a nice talk about the 'craft' and how tough the process is.
My hope is that he goes again soon..perhaps tomorrow with his mom for a few hrs in the morning......we need more flys, tippet and advice..hope to see you during the week...
We really appreciate the common sense assistance you've provided...
